All Officers were elected for a second term to retain continuity of
leadership

The 69th Annual Meeting was held in Lincoln at the cornhusker Hotel March
30-31, 1987. Darlene Mundt, Lincoln is elected President. Students
from the Lincoln Program were presented awards for Posters and essays.
Floyd Paynter Essay Award was presented to Shelly Windhorst. Nancy Huesman
was presented with the Aloise B. Clements Achievement Award. A special
committee has been appointed to write a Scope of Practice for NDAA. The
Association voted to preserve all history and photos in acid-free scrap
books. Dr. Pierson, Dr. Steinacher and Mildred Rinn have been approved as
Honorary Members of NDAA. 57 members, 4 Life, 28 Students, and 15
non-members are registered for the meeting.
1986
The 68th Annual Meeting was held in Lincoln at the Hilton Hotel April 5-7,
1986. Cathy Anderson, Council bluffs, Iowa is elected President.
The R.E.Dooley Student Essay Award was presented to Kimberly Smith, MTCC.
Several Students from the Lincoln Program were presented awards for
Posters.
Floyd Paynter Essay Award was won by Roberta Worm, Omaha. The
Dr.Cecil Mueller Loyalty Award was won by Billie Huber, Lincoln and the
Aloise B. Clements Achievement Award was presented to Cathy Anderson,
Council Bluffs, Iowa. Grace Thompson, Lincoln and Dora Buckingham, Friend
are new Life members. 88 members, 7 Life, 61 students and 12 non-members

1985
The 67th Annual meeting was held in Omaha at the Red Lion Hotel March
17-19, 1985. Delores Heyen, Hastings was elected President. Clara
Duesterhoeft, Blue Hill and Nita Bramble, Hastings are new Life Members.
The Legislative Bill has had some changes. 104 members, 5 Life, 88
Students and 7 non-members are registered for the meeting.
1984
The 66th Annual Meeting was held in Omaha at the Red Lion Hotel March
31-April 2, 1984. Cheri Saxton is elected President. LB 161 is the
bill that will be presented. There has been an 86% increase in
membership 102 members, 7 Life, and 80 students have registered for the
meeting.
1983
The 65th Annual Meeting was held in Lincoln at the Hilton Hotel April
24-26,1983. Joan Trimpey, Papillion is President. Darlene Burkey and
Micki Marr have been registered as lobbyists for NDAA. Irene Wesierski,
Lincoln Life Member has passed away. 102 Members, 3 Life, 79 students and
31 non-members are registered.
1982
The 64th Annual Meeting was held in Omaha at the Holiday Inn Hotel on
April 4-6, 1982. Judy Helms, Grand Island was elected President.
Micki Marr is presented with the Aloise B. Clements Achievement Award.
The Legislative Committee remains active with recognition and definition
of Dental Assistants. Penny Ronk, NDAA Editor, received the International
College of Dentists Award for the NDAA Newsletter. 101 members, 3

The 61st Annual Meeting was held in Lincoln at the Hilton Hotel on April
29-May 1, 1979. Pat Dunlap, Omaha, was elected President. Annette
Stoker, Director of the Certifying Board passed away May 27, 1978.
Anna Wurm and Eva McGrew, long time members, passed away. Lola Wentz
and Eleanor Otto became Life Members. The Fremont Dental Assistants
Society has disbanded.

The 60th Annual Meeting of the NDAA was held in Kearney, NE April
30-May1,1978. Diane Lynn, CDA Omaha, NE was president. The 8th
District Workshop was in Kansas City, KS September 10-11, 1977.

The 8th District Workshop was held in Des Moines, Iowa. Pat Cupkie,

The 56th Annual Meeting of the NDAA was held in Omaha, NE at the Paxton

The 55th Annual Meeting of the NDAA was held in Lincoln, NE at the

The 54th Annual Meeting of the NDAA was held in Omaha, NE, at the Omaha

Helen Hartman was presented the Dr. Floyd Paynter Essay Award. The
8th District Workshop was held at the Kellogg Center in Lincoln, NE.
The Board of Examiners has now agreed that any individual exposing xrays
should complete a courser in Dental Radiology that has been approved by
the Nebraska Board of Dental Examiners. LB587 is being discussed.
The House of Delegates recommended that NDAA support the expansion of
duties of all dental auxiliaries, provided the be predicated by education,
preparation and evaluations and we strongly support expanded duties of all
dental auxiliaries by Experimentation, Education, Evaluation and

The 51st Annual Meeting of the NDAA was held in Lincoln, NE at the Lincoln
Hotel, April 28-30, 1969. Nita Bramble, Hastings, NE was President.
Jeanene Rathjen, Gibbon, NE received the Dr. Floyd Paynter Essay Award;
Darlene Young, Hampton, NE was presented with the Aloise B. Clement
Achievement Award; Helen Cross, Lincoln, NE, the Dr. Cecil Mueller Loyalty
Award and Shsiroey Clare, Lincoln, NE, the Dr. Arlo Dunn Clinic Award.
Iva Coulter, ADAA 2nd Vice President attended this meeting. There were 203
registered members.
The 50th Annual Meeting of the Nebraska Dental Assistants Association was
held in Omaha, NE, Castle Hotel on April 28-30. 1968. Helen Cross,
Lincoln, NE was President. Lynn Carta was presented the Dr. Floyd
Paynter Essay Award; Johanna Vander Mylldekker, Hastings, NE was presented
with the Dr. Cecil Mueller Loyalty Award and Judy McAdams, Lincoln, NE the
Aloise B. Clement Achievement Award. Ruby Sealock, Life Member
passed away.
The 49th Annual Meeting of the NDAA was held in Lincoln, NE at the
congress Inn April 24-16, 1967. Nita Bramble, CDA, Hastings, NE was
President. Marilyn Theesen, Hastings, NE was presented with the Dr.
Floyd Paynter Essay Award, Alice Brunk, Fremont, NE, the Dr. Cecil Mueller
Loyalty Award and Lillian Meistrel, CDA, Fremont, NE the Aloise B. Clement
Achievement Award. There is a new Dental Assisting Program in
Hastings, NE with Irene Mills, CDA as Coordinator/Instructor. There
is a total of 300 members.
The 48th Annual Meeting of the NDAA was held in Omaha, NE at the Prom Town
House, April 25-28, 1966. Dorothy Erickson, CDA, Lincoln, NE was
President. Mary Janecek, Fremont, NE was presented the Dr. Floyd
Paynter Essay Award; Lillian Reinert, Oakland, NE, the Dr. Cecil Mueller
Loyalty Award, and Nita Bramble, CDA, Hastings, NE the Aloise B. Clement
Achievement Award. Margaret Leedom, CDA, Lincoln, NE Life Member has
passed away. LaVeta Lehn, CDA, O’Neill, NE is a new Life Member.
Total Membership is 160 members.
The 47th Annual Meeting of the NDAA was held in Lincoln, NE April 27-28,
1965 at the Congress Inn. Irene Wesierski, CDA of Lincoln, NE is
President. Jan Hunzeker, Valentine, NE was presented the Dr. Floyd
Paynter Essay Award; Lillian Meistrel, CDA, Fremont, the Dr. Cecil Mueller
Loyalty Award; and Dorothy Erickson, CDA, Lincoln, NE, the Aloise B.
Clement Achievement Award. Edna Zedaker, CDA, ADAA President
attended the Nebraska Annual Meeting, as did Iva Coulter, CDA, 8th
district Trustee.
Nebraska has now been redistricted to the 8th District.
The 46th Annual meeting of the NDAA was held in Omaha, NE at the Diplomat Hotel, April 27-29, 1964. Marian Martin, CDA was President.
Helen Cross, CDA of Lincoln, NE was presented the Dr. Floyd Paynter Essay
Award, Irene Mills, CDA of Lincoln, NE, the Dr. Cecil Mueller Loyalty
Award and Helen Cross, CDA the Aloise B. Clement Achievement Award. Dr.
Pierson, Dr. Dunn, and Dr. Stienhacher were nominated as Honorary Members
of NDAA. Martha Brandt, CDA, Coordinator, Irene Korsakas (Murphy),
CDA and Eleanor Otto, CDA are instructors at the new Dental Assisting
Program in Lincoln, NE. There are a total of 103 registered members.
The 45th Annual Meeting of NDAA was held in Lincoln at the Lincoln Hotel
on April 29-May 1, 1963. Sibyl Roach, Omaha was elected President. Mildred
Rinn and Dr.Floyd Paynter become Honorary Members of the NDAA. Nebraska
DAA has won for the third year the 7th District Clinic Award at ADAA
Annual Session. Mathilda Bremer of Minnesota becomes the new 7th district
Trustee for ADAA. Fourteen dental assistants were capped as Certified
Dental Assistants. Lettie Johnson, Fremont, becomes the
Instructor-Coordinator of the Technical School of Dental Assisting in
Omaha. Lillian Meistrell, Fremont was presented with the Dr. Floyd Paynter
Essay Award. Barbara Hock, McCook, was presented with the Dr. Cecil
Mueller Loyalty Award. Lucille Meadows, of Council Bluffs, Iowa, was
presented with the Aloise B. Clements Achievement Award. The total
membership was 214.
The 44th Annual Meeting was held in Omaha at the Diplomat Hotel April
30-May 2, 1962. Jean Goings, Seward, becomes President. Capping ceremonies
continue for the recently certified assistants. Nebraska DAA wins the
District Membership and Clinic Trophy for another year. The Membership
Trophy is awarded to the state with the greatest increase in membership
and the Clinic Trophy is awarded to the state with the greatest number of
clinics being presented at ADAA Annual Meeting. Norfolk has been organized
as a new local society. Helen Kunz, Fremont, was presented with the Dr.
Cecil Mueller Loyalty Trophy. Patricia Bahde, Fremont, was presented with
the Dr. Floyd Paynter Essay Award. Eve McGrew, Lincoln, was presented with
the Aloise B. Clements Achievement Award. 118 members were registered
The 43rd Annual Meeting was held in Lincoln at the Lincoln Hotel on April
24-26,1961. Kathryn Hickey, Omaha, is chosen as President. Thirteen dental
assistants presented clinics at the Nebraska Dental Association Meeting.
Twelve dental assistants recently certified were capped. Nebraska Dental
Assistants Association has been notified they have received the ADAA
Membership and Clinics Trophy. Lettie Johnson organized a local society in
Fremont. Marian Martin, Omaha, was presented the Dr. Cecil Mueller Loyalty
Award. Lettie Johnson, Fremont, was presented the Aloise B. Clements
Achievement Award. Margaret Alaimo, Omaha, and Jean Goings, Seward, were
presented with the Dr.Floyd Paynter Essay Award. 93 Members are registered
with a total of 167 total members.
The 42nd Annual Meeting of the NDAA was held in Omaha at the Paxton Hotel
on April 26-29,1960. Lettie Johnson, Fremont, becomes President. Margaret
Leedom is selected as a member of the Certifying Board of ADAA. She has
reported the 104 hour course is better than the correspondence course and
ideally a college accredited course with one or two years is best. LaVeta
Lehn, O'Neill is now ADAA 3rd Vice President. A capping ceremony was held
in Omaha for the recently certified Assistants. Dr. Eugene Merchant
presented a film on "Class V Gold Foil and Applying the Rubber Dam." Frank
Roberts, Chief Medical Illustrations Service of the VA Hospital in Omaha
presented a film "The Dental Assistant, an Extra Pair of Hands." Margaret
Leedom, Lincoln and Mary Haney, Omaha , Life Members, presented a panel
discussion on "Future of Certification." Anna Wurm and Ruth Morgan were
presented with Life Membership. Mary Ellen Halstead, York, was presented
wit the Floyd Paynter Essay Award, Jean Goings, Seward, was presented with
the Aloise B. Clements Achievement Award and Lettie Johnson, Fremont, was
presented with the Dr. Butler Loyalty Award. There were 108 members
registered.
The 41st Annual Meeting was held in Lincoln at the Lincoln Hotel April
27-29, 1959. Eleanor Otto, Lincoln was elected President. An Advisory
Committee is formed consisting of employers of the Immediate Past
President, President, 1st Vice President and Recording Secretary. The
dentists appointed are as follows: Drs. N.C.Carlson, Lincoln; Alvin Goding,
Alliance; L.A.Burgess, O'Neill; Herbert Seberg, Hastings; and Floyd
Paynter, Omaha. LaVeta Lehn, O'Neill, was nominated as ADAA 3rd Vice
President. Merle Andrews of Huron SD is nominated as 7th District Trustee.
Ruth Asp of Minnesota is nominated as 2nd Vice President. Ruth Morgan of
Omaha and Anna Wurm, Olive Butler, and Beulah Chaloupka, all of Lincoln,
became eligible for Life Membership in NDAA/ADAA. 107 members registered
this year.
The 40th Annual Meeting of the NDAA was held in Omaha at the Paxton Hotel
April 29-30,1958. Irene Mills, Lincoln is President. Mary Haney has become
a Life Member of NDAA/ADAA. Margaret Leedom also becomes a life member.
Anna Wurm, Lincoln was presented with the Aloise B. Clements Achievement
Award; Irene Wesierski, Lincoln was presented with the Dr. Butler Loyalty
Award and Gertrude Naumann, Lexington was presented with the Floyd Paynter
Essay Award.
The 39th Annual Meeting of the NDAA was held in Lincoln at the Lincoln
Hotel April 29- May 1, 1957. Deloris Butler of Omaha becomes President.
Ruth Asp (Martinsen) of Minnesota is nominated for the 7th District
Trustee of the ADAA. Bessie Peterson, ADAA President, attended the Annual
Meeting of NDAA. The Annual Meeting now has several educational lectures.
Several awards were presented at the Annual Meeting. Mary Ellen Halstead,
York, was presented the Floyd Paynter Essay Award; Ruth Morgan, Omaha, was
presented the Dr. Butler Loyalty Award. Margaret Leedom was presented the
Aloise B. Clements Achievement Award. Registration at the Annual Meeting
reached 150.
The 38th Annual Meeting of the NDAA was held in Omaha at the Paxton Hotel
May 1-3, 1956. Gertrude Naumann, Lexington, was elected President.
Membership applications are accepted and approved by the NDAA Board.
LeVeta Lehn, O'Neill, remains the 7th District Trustee for ADAA. There has
been interest in a new society in Grand Island. A dental assisting course
is being taught in Omaha with nine members enrolled, Lincoln has 43
enrolled and Kearney has three. The Grand Island and Hastings area has a
course with 15 and West Nebraska has six. Five clinics will be presented
at Annual Session. Margaret Leedom, Lincoln, is serving on the Certifying
Board of the ADAA, which would later become the Dental Assisting National
Board. (DANB).
1955
The 37th Annual Meeting of the NDAA was held in Omaha at the Castle Hotel
May 9, 1955. Mary Ellen Halstead, York, was elected President. LaVeta Lehn,
O'Neill, became the 7th District Trustee for ADAA. Annette Stoker, from
the Certifying Board, notified that the five "girls" who took the
Examination for Certification in Omaha passed. The certification ceremony
was held January 16, 1955; 17 passed the examination. An education class
was started in Kearney by Jean Didrickson. NDAA Board went on record
approving the extension course at the Public Schools Adult Education
Department in Omaha and the University of Nebraska Dental College in
Lincoln. LaVeta Lehn donated a membership trophy for the largest
percentage increase.

1939
The 22nd Annual Meeting of the NDAA was held in Omaha at the Castle Hotel
May 1939. Norma Edger, Omaha was President. No other details are
available.
1938
The 21st Annual Meeting of the NDAA was held in Lincoln at the Cornhusker
Hotel May 17-18th 1938. Margaret Leedom is again the President. A "Symposium" was conducted by Beulah Chaloupka. Other programs included
"The Dental Assistant as a Hostess", Virginia Luedtke, Lincoln, “The
Dental Assistant as a Housekeeper", Marie Spomer, Lincoln, "The Dental
Assistant as a Nurse and Chairside Assistant", Velma Perry, Omaha, ad "The
Dental Assistant as Laboratory Assistant", Ruth York, Omaha. The Nebraska
Dental Assistants Association had the largest membership in 1937-1938 of
any time during their organization. 76 Members attended.
1937
The 20th Annual Meeting of the NDAA was held in Omaha at the Paxton Hotel
May 18-19,1937. Margaret Leedom of Lincoln is named President. Mary Haney,
Omaha, became the Chairman of the Clinics and Exhibits for ADAA. Norma
Edger of Omaha is also named as a member of that Committee. Dr. B.L.
Hooper presented "Art in Prosthetic Dentistry". 46 members attended.
1936
The 19th Annual Meeting of the NDAA was held in Lincoln at the Lincoln
Hotel on May 19 and May 20, 1936. The new President of the NDAA was Maxine
Smith, Lincoln. Mary Haney, Omaha, was named the ADAA Chairman of the
Committee on Clinics and Exhibits. Norma Edgar, Omaha, was also named to
this committee. Presentations at the meeting included Dr. Rebecca Gibbons,
from the University of Nebraska, on "Diet and Nutrition"; Augusta Taylor,
Fremont, on "Voice Culture"; and Dr. Cecil Muller, Omaha, on "Child
Psychology." Thirty-seven (37) members attended.
1935
The 18th Annual Meeting of the NDAA was held in Omaha at the Paxton Hotel
on May 21 and 22, 1935. NDAA president for that year was Mary Haney,
Omaha. ADAA officers from Nebraska included Aloise B. Clements, Omaha,
Treasurer, and Mildred Stevenson, Lincoln, member of the ADAA Judicial
Committee. Dr. H.N. Boyne, Omaha, presented "The Assistants' Duties
Concerning the Welfare of the Patient." Twenty-five (25) members attended.
1934
The 17th Annual Meeting of the NDAA was held in Lincoln at the Lindell
Hotel on May 22 and 23, 1934. The President for that year was Mary Haney,
Omaha. Aloise B. Clements, Omaha, was named ADAA treasurer and Ruth
Morgan, Omaha, was appointed to the ADAA Legislative Committee. Dr.
Roscoe Smith, from Lincoln General Hospital, presented an "Xray Clinic" Thirty (30) members attended.
1933
The 16th Annual Meeting of the NDAA was held in Omaha at the Hotel Conant
on May 17 and 18, 1933. Officers that year included Mildred Stevenson,
Lincoln, as President and Mary Haney, Omaha, as First Vice-President.
Aloise B. Clements, as 7th District Trustee to the ADAA, also attended.
Dr. Arlo Dunn presented on "Radiology" and Dr. J.M. Prime presented on
"General Laboratory Techniques." There were twenty-seven (27) members in
attendance.
1932
On May 18, 1932, the 15th Annual Meeting of the NDAA was held at the
Cornhusker Hotel in Lincoln. Mildred Stevenson, Lincoln, is selected as
President. Aloise B. Clements, Omaha, the 7th District Trustee to the ADAA,
also attended. Dr. J.E. Thompson made a presentation on "Sore Feet make
Sore Head." Forty (40) members attended.
1931
The 14th Annual Meeting was held in Omaha on May 19 and 20, 1931. Virginia
Young, Valentine, continued as President. Other officers included Mildred
Stevenson, Lincoln, First Vice-President; Pauline Stout, Aurora, Second
Vice-President; Mildred Burcham, Lincoln, Secretary-Treasurer. The NDAA
Board of Directors included Anna Wurm and Margaret Throckmortin, Lincoln;
Louise Schultz and Aloise B. Clements, Omaha. Aloise Clements also
attended the meeting as 7th District Trustee to the ADAA. Dr. P.T. Barber,
Omaha, presented "Diet." Forty-nine(49) members attended.
1930
The 13th Annual Meeting was in Lincoln on May 20 and 21, 1930. Officers
for that year were Virginia Young, Valentine, President; Bernice Rominger,
Omaha, Vice-President; Margaret Throckmortin, Lincoln,
Secretary-Treasurer. Dr. H.H. Waite from the University of Nebraska
presented "Bacteriologty of the Mouth." Sixty-five (65) members attended.
1929
The 12th Annual Meeting was held in Omaha on May 21 and 22, 1929. Officers
that year were Louise Schultz, President; Beulah Ager, Lincoln,
Vice-President; Ruth Morgan, Omaha, Secretary-Treasurer. Attendees from
the ADAA included Alois B. Clements, Omaha, 7th District Trustee, and
Juliette A. Southard, New York, President of the ADAA. Dr. F. Blaine
Robotham, Chicago, presented a paper on "Economics." Fifty-three (53)
members attended.
1928
The 11th Annual Meeting was in Lincoln on May 21 and 22, 1928. Jessie
Sturdevant, from Omaha, was named President. Aloise B. Clements, the ADAA
7th District Trustee from Omaha, also attended. Fifty-seven (57) members
attended.
1927
On May 17th & 18th, 1927, the NDAA held its10th Annual Meeting was held at
the Medical Arts Building in Omaha. Jessie Cook, President, presided over
the meeting. Ruth Morgan from Omaha was named Secretary-Treasurer. Dr. C.
F. Patton presented a program on "Setting Up Teeth." Thirty-six (36)
members attended.
1926
The 9th Annual Meeting was held in Lincoln at the Lindell Hotel on May 18
and 19 of 1926. Officers elected at the meeting were Anna Wurm of Lincoln
as President, Margaret Zurning of North Platte as Vice President, and
Daisy Jones of Lincoln as Secretary-Treasurer. Aloise B. Clements was
elected as the Delegate to the ADAA. Dr. H. H. Waite of Lincoln presented
a lecture on sterilization. There were forty-one (41) members in
attendance. These members voted on May 19 to affiliate the NDAA with the
ADAA.to yearly index
1925
The 8th Annual Meeting was held in Omaha at the Billings Auditorium on May
19 and 20, 1925. Officers elected for 1925-26 were Marie Finnegan of Omaha
as President, Anna Wurm of Lincoln as Vice President, and Ann Riley of
Omaha as Secretary-Treasurer. Aloise B. Clements presented a clinic on
X-rays. There were thirty-three (33) members at the meeting.
Formation of the ADAA
A group of dental assistants met in Cleveland, on September 25, 1925, at
the invitation of Juliette A. Southard and Dr. Henry Fowler of New York,
to consider the advisability of organizing a National Association. New
York was one of the first states to form state associations. (As far as
anyone knows, Nebraska was the very first state to organize.) A committee
was formed and the first meeting was held in Dallas in conjunction with
the American Dental Association. Daisy Jones from Lincoln represented
Nebraska. Juliette A. Southard was chosen as the first President of the
newly-formed American Dental Assistants Association. The first organized
meeting of the ADAA was held later in Louisville, KY.
1924
The 7th Annual Meeting came back to Lincoln at the Dental College on May
20 and 21, 1924. Officers elected that year were Louise Schultz of Omaha
as President, Eva Burnham of Fremont as Vice President, and Daisy Jones of
Lincoln as Secretary-Treasurer. Dr. F. W. Albrecht of Lincoln presented an
Inlay Clinic. There were twenty-three (23) members attending in 1924.k
1923
The 6th Annual Meeting was held in Omaha at the Fontenelle Hotel on May 15
and 16, 1923. Officers elected that year were Aloise B. Clements of Omaha
as President, Blanche Jones of Hastings as Vice-President, and Della
Felzien of Omaha as Secretary-Treasurer. Dr. Lester Furnas of Cleveland,
Ohio, presented a lecture on "Full Denture Work in the Laboratory."
Nineteen (19) members attended.
1922
The 5th Annual Meeting was held in Lincoln at the Lindell Hotel on May 16
and 17, 1922. Daisy Jones of Lincoln was elected as President. A clinic
was presented on "Investing and Casting Inlays" by May Morris of Kearney.
Thirty (30) members attended this meeting.
1920-1921

1918-1919
The first Annual Meeting was held in Lincoln on May 21 & 22, 1918.
Forty-six (46) members attended. The members who attended that meeting
decided to continue to meet at the same time and place as the Nebraska
Dental Association. Elizabeth Mayo was elected as the first President. She
served as President until May 1919 when Aloise B. Clements of Omaha was
elected to succeed her. The Omaha Dental Assistants Society remembers Ms.
Clements to this day by awarding the Aloise B. Clements Achievement to its
members.
1917: THE BEGINNING
The Nebraska Dental Assistants Association can trace its roots back to
1917. While the United States was becoming involved in the First World
War, dental assistants decided they needed to organize. The first
organizational meeting of the Nebraska Dental Assistants Association was
held in Hastings, on October 18, 1917, at the office of E.A. Thomas, D.D.S.
Elizabeth Mayo of Gothenburg presided at this meeting.
